Pavel's Genres are on a higher level of the hierarchy (Supergenres), so I didn't include them here. Same goes for the ones of Serge, here I included the examples he gave in brackets. I dind't use Dewe's set directly, because it served as a base for my genre classes, where I already took into account the user feedback they got. A comment on Georg's genre "Slides": I was thinking hard, whether to include it or not. Finally, I didn't, because I think it's more a means of presentation/medium which is IMHO a different facet for classifying texts. Please tell me, what you think.

Note: Please don't edit this list. If you have comments, please add them right here on top. It's easier for me to find them, then. Or send them by mail. -- Andrea

(... moreover, how can we tag THIS page? Is it a "wiki" page or a "list"? I think it's a "list" -- Mirko)

I would say a "Glossary" :) -- Andrea

Maintenance

Svetlana: - I think, this is a good list of genre classes to start with. It would be great if we could maintain it "live" -i.e. inviting other researchers in the field to contribute genre classes and examples of particular classes. It would need, of course, a group of editors/moderators/experts deciding on changes/additions to make.

Applications

- also, the list may benefit from having a list of domains of application. Some genre classes from the list may take on quite a different form in different domains, e.g. : Official report or Forecast (weather vs. horoscope vs. stock). Well, even "About page" includes different components depending on the context - university vs. corporation vs. non-profit (you can find these details on "About pages" in my thesis :). We could, of course, create sub-genres; alternatively, we could use a domain as an additional facet/feature to further specify a genre class (such facets usually save space in structures).
